Be Your Own Microphone (Room 400A)

As youth, it often seems like our voices aren’t being heard. Whether in our homes, our schools, or our communities, youth voice is often ignored or overlooked. In this workshop, you will hear from youth who are working to elevate youth voice in their community. They will share tips for amplifying youth involvement in issues that matter, including substance use and other social issues, and will then share some of their own strategies and projects. You will have the chance to speak with other teens about their experiences with youth involvement in community change, and explore what you have learned through an interactive activity.    


Be (A)ware!  Everybody Makes Mistakes (Room 400B)

Since the beginning of the human race, we as human beings experience biases and discrimination against who we are.  We also have biases against others, whether we know it or not.  We need to be aware of the biases we have and how our behavior effects other people.  Together, we can learn about the different biases we may have, and how we can change our thinking to be in someone else’s shoes.  Together, we can learn to take care of each other, as well as ourselves.  


Food for Thought (Room 400C)

Teens are in a rapidly changing time in their lives which can sometimes be stressful. "Food for Thought" is a hands-on mindfulness workshop with a delicious twist! Connecting our minds to our taste buds, we will learn new ways on how to live "in the moment," slow down those racing thoughts, and feel more at ease. Participants will be guided through a simple eating meditation using various foods that will help connect you to yourself and live a more mindful life. 
(Foods include grapes and chocolate)
Jasmine Humphries is a holistic community development specialist who helps build communities from the inside-out and outside-in. As a teen, she earned the Girl Scout Gold award and was the first "graduate" of the Avondale Youth Council. Today she is a yoga teacher (Heal 'n Build) and has leads young people to discover the world around them through fun activities like building parks and exposure to careers in built environment industries that help build the places we all know and love    


Money: 101: Secure The Bag (Room 415)

This workshop is based on principles from Lawrence's book ""Money Seeds: 30 Financial Principles."" You'll learn about: Creating a business; Proper spending habits; Setting up a bank account; Branding yourself in any field.    
Lawrence is the Founder and Chief Education Officer at Abundance University. For the past 3 years, he has made financial education videos entitled 'Money Mondays' and has did over 50 financial workshops. With a strong background in the financial industry, Lawrence helps educate and implement wealthy mindsets and habits. He currently has his own podcast (Money Talks), self published his 1st book (Money Seeds), and youth program (Money: 101).

This workshop will help you identify Three types of leaders; -How to evaluate what leadership is and what it's not; Best practices in modeling service leadership and Learning how to empower self and community through giving.

Students are challenged to explore the meaning of tolerance and the human cost of intolerance by focusing on storytelling the dynamics of discrimination in the past and today. What does hate look like today? Can a young person even make a difference? What is a Creative Conversation?

What does music do to you? Come learn how music affects us and impacts everyday life. Through this workshop, we will explore lyrics to different songs and explore how it makes us feel and what it makes us think. Walk away knowing the difference between entertainment and the messages we receive from music.
