This workshop is about understanding that real power lies within your ability to communicate your message effectively, for communication is the driving force behind your personal development, goal setting and future career success. So, regardless of advances in technology, or how well you can articulate a text message, the paths you take in life today will be determined by how well you communication your life directions tomorrow.
Helping Children Find Their Voice Through the Arts (Room 400B)

Being heard is what is wanted and needed by us all. In this workshop, we will explore ways to express your voice through speaking, singing, dancing or acting and still get your message across without physically delivering it. Youth need to know that what they have to say is important and much needed in our city, so come learn how to use your voice through the arts.

The workshop will focus on building relationships. Students will focus on what are the qualities they have that make them leaders and compare them to others. Students will engage in an activity around this and talk about those difficulties when having those strong leadership traits and working with others of opposite traits. Students will come up in groups with ways in which they can get past the Personality work cohesively with others while building a solid relationship.
Young Voices, Lives Matter: Speak your mind even if your voice shakes. (Room 417)

The workshop is design to inspire activism by bringing awareness to the importance of youth voices in our cultural, social and political spaces. We will discuss the barriers that young people experience that prevents their voices from being heard, and then discuss option of how to overcome them. Then the participants will bring up issues they experience and see in their community, then discuss the best means of how they think is the best way to eliminate issue.
Misleading Marijuana Myths (Room 419)

Marijuana is the leading, most used, illicit substance among teens but why? This workshop challenges participants to think deeper about the illicit use and/or desire to smoke marijuana. While also debunking the most popular myths that only reflect the surface view of usage and why marijuana should be legalized; participants will be given the tools to recognize why they should not be part of the age bracket leading the statistics and the alternatives in the city that were created just for them, as well as other practices that produce and assist in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Power of Forgiveness: Healing Thru Poetry (Room 425)

Forgiveness Poems are written to someone or something that as an individual we are able to let go of that certain agony. As many are taught that forgiveness is not for the other person but for ourselves. The participants will pick a color from paint chips and write a forgiveness poem while using the paint chip as a way to describe their emotion. After the poems are written, they will have the opportunity to share or not. Then everyone will pick one line that they love from their poem and then we will create a community/group poem.
